I've read in the past that at points, Linton was a small enough shop that they weren't able to run tooling for their full line of instruments, requiring purchase of stenciled or custom instruments from other shops. I'm sure this is true since I've seen Lintons marked France - does anyone know who made what when, and how to tell what came from whom? Are there roadmaps like keywork design, model/serial numbers...

I'm really hazy on the Linton details myself, but it's my understanding that the plans were sold, and that the newer Armstrong and Olds oboes are using a revamping of the Linton design. One feature which has caused me trouble on some of these is the black plastic adjustment screws. Too mushy a material for this, and they are placed too close to the key hinge, which does not allow for as fine adjustments as when they are further from the hinge.
