Hi everyone,

I wanted to know if any of you had opinions, information, or advice about the different repair schools up north.  I seriously want to learn the trade and thought repair school would be my best bet.  I thought about apprenticing, but when I asked a repair tech here (Austin, TX) if any of them did that, he was a bit rude and basically said no.  Although, that was a few years ago.

Erica,

Read the info about repair schools on the Napbirt website. I don't believe
you need to be a Napbirt member to do this. I would think if you go this
route, the primary consideration, money and location allowing, would be
personal choice of instructors. What do you see as your future areas of
expertise? Woodwind, brass, etc.? Then pick the school with the
instructor having the strongest skills in that area.

I'm just down in San Antonio. If woodwinds are your thing, come on
down, we'll do lunch and talk a bit. I do some private teaching of repair.
I don't need a real apprentice, sorry, but could give a lot of pointers.

Erica,

The band instument repair program info for Western Iowa Tech should be the following link (its moved and I do not think NAPBIRT fixed the link)...

http://witcc.edu/programs/details.cfm?id=45

Western Iowa Tech's (WIT) format is currently 2 years. It is possible to start the program in either spring or fall term. We cover all the things listed on the site and there is also room for independent study.

I am currently in the program at WIT and enjoying it. If you have more questions or need more info send me a message.
